The Fjord horse is one of the world's oldest and purest breeds. These gorgeous horses were known to exist in Norway at the end of the last ice age. It is believed that the ancestors of the modern Fjord horse migrated to Norway and were domesticated over 4,000 years ago. Their unique form and wild beauty has always captivated me. To see them moving through the landscape with their soft curving necks and muscular form, thick manes shaking in the winds. It's as though they are small moving mountains broken free from the land.
This painting is a mixed media type work, paper layers with paint and a little pastel.

About Katrina Jones
Nature, animals, people, the wild landscape, beautiful patterns, and the dance of light, and spiritual beliefs inspire artist Katrina Jones to paint. "In my silence while painting and drawing I observe this grand romance going on between form, color, line, texture - It's magnificent and what keeps me hanging to talk about it with my paints and brushes. When one piece is done, I simply can't wait to observe and tell the next love story. I've been painting for as long as I can remember and I'll be painting until the day I die. There's so much to see and share this way " She says.
Katrina's genres are varied - botanical, wildlife, figurative, and commissioned portraiture. Her expressions are a blend of realism and impressionism. Continually striving to deliver her unique perception of a subject's essence with paint and canvas pushes her artistic ability and growth.
