I remember the excitement of my first days in the steel industry. In the 60s young men were in awe of the experienced men of steel "First Hands" who instinctively knew when a furnace was right for tapping. Or a first-hand roller could tell when there was something wrong with the mill by the sound of clashing machinery.
This is my tribute to them, I learnt so much by simply observing them.
