This is one of a series of pieces inspired by a visit to the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford and the fertility symbols I found there. I begin by throwing a stoneware form on the wheel for both the human and animal form distorting and working the piece as it dries.The foliage is carved from a solid piece of clay and joined to the main form. I have a clear picture of what it is I am making before I start. The pieces are fired twice with slip applied before the second firing.
