Fieldfares apparently come from Scandinavia into our country during the early Winter to escape the worst of their weather at home. I spotted this one in my garden recently and the warm russet colours of its' plumage seemed to slightly camouflage it amongst the foliage of this cotoneaster shrub where it was feasting on the luscious red berries.
I have painted this picture using watercolours and subtle shades of mauves, green and umbers as well as the bright cadmium reds of the berries. I have semi-abstracted the foliage around the outside of the painting rather than over-detailing so as not to detract from the main subject. Mounted in a warm white mountboard ready to be framed to your taste.
