Artist's description:

I love fallow deer's antlers - palmate. They look like coral or seaweed - well almost. So, I am afraid I gave this stag a big of an antler boost! It is painted 90x90cm watercolour, ink and imitation gold leaf on a deep edge canvas.

The box canvas has been primed with a special ground, then painted with ink. A little watercolour was added and I then used imitation (sorry not the real thing!!) gold leaf applied in the traditional way, over gold size. Finally I enhanced the image with a little colour and final touches of ink, before sealing it. The leaf is distressed, rather than 100% smooth and this is deliberate, not down to my clumsiness, I promise! I like the feeling of age and slight roughness.

The image and leaf continue on the sides, and it is signed on the lower edge. It is backed and ready to hang. The only problem is that taking a photo is tricky, so I have done my best with the reflections, but if you need more images just shout.

Materials used:

Indian ink, watercolour, gold leaf (imitation)
