In 2015 I began painting a series of 'self-portraits' using animal references as metaphors to portray traits of my character and stages of my life thus far. As an ex-Drama teacher the bard is hugely important to me and this monologue inspired this series.
'ALL THE WORLD'S A STAGE' William Shakespeare monologue from 'As You Like It'
All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely players.
They have their exits and their entrances,
And one man in his time plays many parts,
His acts being seven ages.
Thoroughly enjoying myself with this series and realising to capture ones life in seven stages is very hard, I have decided not to limit myself to seven, but lots of momentous occasions and feelings.
This baby orang-utan is summing up those moments when we just need our Mums or someone to say 'it's ok' and give us a cuddle!
