Artist's description:

This constellation of the southern hemisphere owes its name to a river of Greek mythology. Some Greeks, among whom Diodorus and Theon of Alexandria, asserted that the name of Eridan replaced the name of the Nile, Eratosthenes even says that Aratus calls Eridan the river of Orion.
It was listed for the first time by Ptolemy, but it was William Herschel who cataloged it in 1783.
