Title : Enigma

From The Sea Moods Collection

This is an image from my new series called Sea Moods, minimalist images that reflect the beauty of the deep blue Atlantic Ocean.

Made on tiny beach on the far side of the Isle of Lewis on a day when the sky was heavy with rain and the waves were rolling softly in. This beach has no name (as far as I can tell), it lies to the north of Uig near a tiny place called Valtos (Bhaltos in the Gaelic language) on the north west coast of Lewis. A place surrounded by rocky cliffs but with silver sands and deep blue water. From here you look out onto the North Atlantic Ocean to Iceland, Greenland and endless seas. The remoteness and the romance of this place puts you under a spell.

The name Sea Moods was inspired by the Hebridean songs of Celtic poet and songwriter Kenneth Macleod (1871 - 1955). Here are a few lines that seem apt...

Deep the longing that has seized me,
Song nor fiddle lifts it off,
In my ear the ocean sounding
Sets me roving from the glen,
And sea voices ever call me:
Come, O love, to thy home land.

About My Work
I am passionate about creating images of the landscape around Skye. The land, the people and the history are woven together to create a place of endless mystery.

I love working with luxury paper and canvas materials that hold their colours for a lifetime. For these special large prints of my work I use dreamy, light textured Canson Canvas and the highest quality inks. I do all my own printing, having spent years learning this skill I prefer to maintain control of the colour representation at all stages to ensure you get a truly handmade image.

About My Materials
People often say that my images look like paintings because of the richness of the colours, the depth of the black and the texture of the materials I use. Canson are one of the oldest paper manufacturers in the world, they have been making paper for over 450 years in France. Founded in 1557 and printers to Louis XVI, their paper was used by Voltaire and Napoleon and the Montgolfier brothers used Canson paper to make the first hot air balloon. Canson paper was used by Picasso, Ingres, Chagal, Miro and many other artists. They have been making paper and canvas for photography since this art began over 150 years ago. Canson are Eco Friendly - they purchase paper pulp only from forests managed in a sustainable way which also makes them pretty special.

Other Sizes
This print is available in other sizes on canvas or paper. I am happy to take custom orders, just drop me a line.

A Note on Canvases
Canvases are unframed and unmounted, they need to be stretched or framed once you get them. They are matte varnished and come with 1.5 inch (4cm) gallery wrap or with white or dark coloured sides, just let me know which you prefer. Once ready, they are carefully wrapped in acid free tissue then shipped in a sturdy art tube to ensure safe delivery. All taxes and duties to be paid by the receiver.

Thanks for looking, if you have any questions just let me know.
