I love the relaxed attitude of this pose. I captured it by cutting paper which I'd painted black, and mounting this on paper I'd painted cream. I cut out just enough detail to suggest how the model is sitting, but I like to leave lots for the viewer to work out. My series of cut-out nudes was initially inspired by Matisse's Blue Nudes. I try to emulate some of Matisse's energetic style and apparent simplicity in my work.
At first glance this collage may look like a painting, but on close viewing, the subtleties of the cut paper technique I use are revealed: there are rough edges where I've cut the black paper with a scalpel, there are slight variations in colour where I've painted the paper before cutting it, and the black paper sits slightly away from the cream background.
The art work comes in a protective plastic sleeve.
Each artwork is unique and hand made. I make the same designs in a maximum of 5 different colours. I never make two of the same design in the same colour.
