Artist's description:

'Eliska' is one of three paintings created for and exhibited at the Royal College of Art, London. The title refers to my Czech family history. The name is an old Czech name which has a few historic meanings, pledged to God, truthful, beautiful and intelligent. It is the equivalent to our Elizabeth. I chose it as my Czech ancestry is a bit of a mystery to me and I only know fragments from my grandfather. Just like this painting, I don't have all the information and have very few clues. I have emphasized the surface, because that's all we really see.
