I heard an interview on the radio with the daughter of the founder of Chester Zoo. June Williams (nee Mottershead) mentioned that as a young girl she had had to lead elephants through Eastgate during the 1940's. In today's world where we take so much for granted I imagined the excitement that this must have caused. I have depicted the scene as the elephants approach Eastgate archway in Chester.
