Artist's description:

I painted this with a very big and direct concern about the welfare of elephants. The type of marks on the elephant's body are intended to reflect the cruelty inflicted upon them when they are 'trained' by humans. The large dark marks on either side of the animal are intended to 'trap' it - reflecting its treatment by ivory poachers.
