This is an original oil painting on canvasboard. The subject matter is an older male profile in traditional ethnic costume. The palette is dominated by deep skin tones surrounded by muted golds and grays.
An elderly man is portrayed. He is shown chest-high, turned a quarter-turn away to the viewer's right, his head turned back to just beyond the viewer to the left. He appears to be focused on something over the viewer's left shoulder. His skin is wrinkled and weathered. He wears an open plaid taqiyah or kufi (Muslim prayer) cap with trim. He appears to be outside in strong sunlight, his eyes squinting to form dark narrow almond slits. His mouth curls up almost into a closed smile. The work is entitled, "The Wise One".
The work is in pristine condition and signed by the artist. The work is in its original framing, which is a thick, decorated wood frame, painted gold on the front and very dark matt brown on the sides with an ivory linen liner as shown. The frame and liner are also in excellent condition.
