Wool lends itself well to creating the atmosphere of dusk in this picture, due to the subtle colours of the wool when mixed and felted, which create the softness of the light of that time of day. Felting wool creates a randomness of effect, as there is only limited control one can have during the process. I relish the randomness, as often it's the 'mistakes' in paintings which makes the painting work!
