"Galerie Ludwig Trossaert Cat. N° 4559 - take a look at 0 - Georges Vanrijk was a cabinet maker, interior designer and industrial designer before beginning his career as a photographer at the age of 36.
At first, his favourite subjects were mostly his own chairs.
But it was during the swinging sixties, in the exuberant city of London, that his career as a fashion photographer took off.
Vanrijk was one of the most famous Belgian fashion photographers of the 70s and 80s, creating numerous catalogues, presenting the clothes of the most prestigious designers along with those less well known. Everyone wanted to see their collection through the lens of George Vanrijk’s camera.
His grand photo-paintings come in 90 x 90 or 120 x 120 cm. In the original art piece the picture does not replace the drawing, but is an integral part of it, a fusion between photography and painting. This succesful mix was first tried in the 20th century by American artists and Georges-Charles Vanrijk. Mr. Vanrijk was able to inject emotion into the photographic image and the acrylic paint.
It´s no surprise that many celebrities trusted Vanrijk with the painting of their portraits."
