Standing on Ringstead Beach, on the Dorset coast in sparkling sunshine, I was struck by the glaring light bleaching the colours and textures as the waves drew back from their furthest reach up the fine pebbles. This painting and it's larger sister (Drawing back the Sea I) form a response which I think express these qualities. It is made using a variety of tools along with large brushes including cardboard, sticks and toothbrushes in order to create textures.
