Artist's description:

Fleeting beauty of the dragonfly. This painting has a memorable story for me as I so wanted to paint one, but 'how do you observe something so quick and in constant motion?' I said to a friend one day jokingly that I need one to pose for me.
Literally 3 days later, I was on the telephone with the garden door open and in flew this beautiful huge dragonfly. landed on my knee..waited for me to finish my call and spent an hour with me while I sketched and took photos, I took it out to the garden and after a while thanked it and it flew away..you can see the photo of it on my finger
The dragonfly to me represents the power of vualising hwat you need, of wonder and success after effort and work. Rebirth and metamorphosis
I started the painting by creating a multitude of sketches while the dragonfly was with me. Then I created the composition on a large scale and worked by layering pastels over each other on sandboard.
The result give s a dense velvety texture which looks more like paint than pastel.

The original is available but i have also produced this image as a limited edition giclee in sizes to order
