This artwork is a Post-Picasso reaction/comment, it belongs to my "commenting on Picasso series". I was drawn by this subject (Maya with a doll) mainly because of its color palette and composition. I enjoyed exercising this color palette and the strong composition.
I felt differently the shape sharpness - trying to give it a more gestural, richer in shades, expressive approach. Here, Maya looks like a big doll holding a little doll (see the reference in the additional images, the last photo).
Retaken and completed in Cuenca, Oct., 2016
- it is painted on a thick linen canvas (museum quality)
- the exact size is 107 x 96 cm / 42.1 x 37.8 inches.
- I applied to it more isolating layers of glossy final varnish.
- it has about 10 cm (3.9 inches) extra white margin on the edges, in order to be stretched on wooden frame/chassis later on.
It will be shipped rolled, in a hard tube. I recommend taking the artwork to a professional framer, in order to have it re-stretched.
