This image was painted from a series of photographs of a private garden in Fife, Scotland. I enjoy painting native species, and in particular those which are attractive to the bees and butterflies. The dog rose is something that I remember well from my childhood, especially the rose hips that come later in the year. This image particularly appealed to me, and I just loved the background colours provided by the dog rose leaves.

Original oil painting on a hand-built box canvas stretcher. The sides have pristine, white edges, and it is sealed using Gamvar archive quality picture varnish. I use only professional grade Old Holland and Michael Harding oils, for their high pigment content, and excellent light fastness.
