Artwork description
Celebrate the loyalty, energy and playful spirit of the dog with this original, hand-printed reduction linocut.
The 30 × 30 cm image is carefully printed on 35 × 35 cm, 300 gsm Fabriano paper. With its expressive lines, rich colours and lively texture, this handcrafted artwork brings warmth and character to any interior.
The print was created using 13 carefully planned layers of Caligo Safe Wash oil-based relief ink. Each layer contributes to the depth, colour and distinctive surface of the finished image.
Every impression is printed individually by hand. Subtle differences in ink, colour and pressure give each print its own unique character.
The reduction technique involves carving more material away from the same linoleum block before every new colour is printed. Once the block has been carved for the next layer, it cannot be returned to an earlier stage.
This intensive and irreversible process requires careful planning, patience and precision. More than two months were spent designing, carving and printing this artwork.
My inspiration comes from my love of animals and the joy they bring. My studio is situated in the countryside and surrounded by animals whose presence can be felt throughout my work.
The decorative style of this print is influenced by Art Nouveau and artists such as William Morris and Alphonse Mucha.
