Artist's description:

The Great Escape, Escape to Victory

This is following on from the previous work “The Great Escape...” and in the work I have been exploring and learning the historical events of national game Football (soccer in USA), the names of players, football moves, with emphasis on the World War II (1943-1945) and the World Cup 1966 (England v Germany), 50th Anniversary was in 2016. I have chosen this subject matter as anti-war message by team’s playing against each other to seek a peaceful resolution of conflicts in football instead of wars.

Inspired by the film “Escape to Victory” (1981) starring Michael Caine (England), Bobby Moore, (England), Sylvester Stallone (USA), Pele (Brazil), Baumann (Germany) of the football (soccer) match between the Germany and Allies (England and others POW’s) during World War II.

Also inspired by the recent film “Bo66y” (2016 - Bobby Moore of England Team) during the 1966 World Cup Final between England and Germany at Wembley Stadium, London. Also inspired by the recent television programme “Tina and Bobby” documentary following the story of Bobby Moore written by Tina Moore living in USA.

Inspired by the film "The Great Escape" (1963) starring Steve McQueen, during World War II (1939-1945) ft. "Harry" the Escape Tunnel at the British & American Prisoner of War Camp at Stalag Luft, near Germany.

Superimposed upon this is the actual the tunnel interchange points called "Leicester Sq & Piccadilly Circus" from the London Underground Map that follows the line of the tunnel "Harry" running from right to left (or east to west). Four Letter words have been taken from the film, and imposed onto rectangular blocks of the tunnel "Harry".

The Underground Map has been inverted, with the Station names changed to words, phrases from the Film and/or from World War II. The Underground Map (tube map) has been realigned, re-grid into squares, and forms an aerial view of the football (soccer) pitch of Culombes Stadium, Paris or Wembley Stadium, London, UK.

The squares are blocks of colours with their opposite complimentary colour and with enlarged initial front letter and spells subsequent words or tubes station names take from the Films, or Players names (England, Germany, Argentina, Brazil, France, Hungary, Italy, Ireland, Netherlands, Spain), Football moves (such as Hocus Pocus, Rabona) and Artist names, with a Play-on-Words.

This work contains words in several languages, English, French ("Marseillaise" national song etc) and German ("Deutsher" German's national team)
