Artist's description:

Along with the comeback of the City of Detroit, Belle Isle has also been renewed. Families have returned to this beautiful island in the Detroit River, and the James Scott Memorial Fountain is once again running.

As a child growing up in a Detroit suburb during the 1960's, I remember the riots of 1967 and the military helicopters flying directly over our house. We could see the smoke of Detroit burning in the skies. The slow fall of the city was felt in the surrounding cities for decades until recently. I love going downtown now, to see the beauty of the city rising from the ashes to reclaim it's former glory.

I took this photograph in the summer of 2015. It is printed on metallic photographic paper to give it a subtle glow.
