Original artwork description:

Driving through to the vast and isolated hillsides of the Howgill Fells I have pulled over to catch the scene before me. Even though much of what I paint is off the beaten track so much of Cumbria is small roads flanked by stone walls - and I just had to try to capture the scene as the light caught the hillsides before me. The Howgill Fells have a quality all of their own. Overlooked by the majority of visitors who flock to the Lakeland Fells - and once described by Wainwright as 'sleeping elephants' - they whisper quietly in their isolation and ruggedness. I have attempted here to capture the sense of quiet journeying with also the effect of light and shadow as it illuminates the sparse hills.

This painting is complete with a beautifully handmade and finished white wooden frame - which leads the eye into the work. Signed by me on the front and reverse this painting is ready to hang.
