Decorative Chinese influenced contemporary semi-abstract vertical floral landscape, suggestive of drooping blossom above water and flowering islands. Vivid colours including cadmium orange, crimson, blue and violet set off by a black float frame. As a child I loved my grandmother's recitation of the Willow Pattern story, and since my six months English teaching in Jiangsu Province in 2005, when I realised that the mist shrouded rocky peaks, anciently twisted pine trees and sky-reflecting lakes (not to mention flat bottomed skiffs, egrets, bamboo and conical hats) in those single perspective brush painted scrolls, vertical or horizontal, reflect real landscape, my work has undergone intermittent spasms of Chinoiserie. Mine however, is a robustly intricate western style, unlike the airy elegance of the traditional ink brush on silk technique!
