This isolated rock and tree on Haytor Down on Dartmoor caught my attention. The weather was very warm and humid in the vanguard of an approaching rain front. The developing cloud gave me the opportunity to shoot the tree in silhouette and from close up the tree appears to tower above the granite outcrop. In reality they were of a similar height. The gloomy mood of the monochrome treatment seemed to suit the way the weather was about to change. Also, the dark features of the rock take on a stronger appearance of a face in profile adding to the mysteriousness of the scene.
