For me, inspiration comes from many places -- the natural world, archaeology, history, science, even cartoons. I love the idea of telling a story in one image.
“Counting Sheep” (CS) was born from my love of ancient cultures, as well as my warped sense of humor. I love thinking about the world as it used to be, and then adding a little twist. CS is an original composition based on Anasazi petroglyphs
found at Newspaper Rock, Utah, and several other sites.
CS is intended to be beautiful art piece on its own visual merits, that recalls a time before modern writing. But if you want to pause a moment longer, I hope the image makes you laugh, or makes you ponder.
I created this piece by altering techniques from other art forms and combining them in unique ways. I apply multiple layers of plaster, using a hand-made form to fashion the images. I then color the plaster with powder pigments.
