Artist's description:

This painting depicts the Cinema Impero in Asmara, Eritrea which is one of the finest examples of Italian Modernist architecture in the World. The Cinema is left over from the Italian colonial period when architects used the city to test ideas that would have been too avant garde to be built in Europe at the time. The result is that several remarkable buildings remain in Asmara, although given the isolation of Eritrea, they are relatively unknown and forgotten.
