This is one of the 40 images from my most recent solo exhibition "Dancing on the wings of freedom" (Lithgow, NSW, Australia) which featured small winged and nectar-drinking creatures: butterflies, bees, dragonflies, cicadas and Australian native birds. All prints in this collection are a limited edition of 25.
"Cicada season" was taken in Katoomba, the Blue Mountains, Australia, in the summer of 2013. That year, cicadas came out of their prolonged hibernation in huge numbers and their buzzing noise was deafening. During the brief period of their daylight life, they mate and then die, leaving behind their orange or green shells and transparent, fairy-like wings. The brevity of their lives reminds us of impermanence of all existence. This image in pastel tones highlights the fine details of their bodies and faces against the equally varied and detailed bark of a eucalypt tree. The interplay of light and shadow adds another dimension to the image.
Most of my images are available in a range of sizes and on different kinds of photographic and fine art paper, including Inkjet Pro Fine Art Paper320gsm, Inkjet Hahnemuele Bright White Rag Paper 310gsm, Inkjet Canson Rag Photographique Paper 310gsm, and Inkjet Hahnemuele Museum Etching Paper 350gsm. Please ask me if you wish to place a special order and I will do my best to fulfil your wishes. Please note that prints on fine art paper will be shipped flat to avoid damage to the extra sensitive print, which may slightly increase the shipping cost. I will provide you with a special shipping quote prior to your placing the order if applicable.
