I am a retired academic interested in engravings created for books in the 18th and 19th centuries before the advent of photography and have been inspired by the need to preserve these beautiful books by making their images widely available.
For these pictures I begin with the black and white engravings from antiquarian books that are imaged at very high resolution. Using Photoshop I clean all defects such as foxing and stains, and then lightly colour them. The outcomes are beautiful pictures from the past. I specialise in engravings of Oxford and Cambridge colleges, created by Le Keux, Harraden and others, scenes in London in the 19th century and scenes in India created by artists such as William Daniell. I make these images available in limited editions which will be numbered and signed by me. The Cambridge prints are also available at www.camgravings.com where there are more options such as the inclusion of mounts.
