This Chinstrap penguin is certainly looking well fed and happy at the end of the summer season in the Antarctic. Although reminding me of a toddler who is slightly off balance, I suspect he or she has the catch of the day and is on the way to feeding a chick at the end of the breeding season. This penguin has certainly built up a good layer of fat to last the winter when this type of penguin will stay out at sea not returning to land until next spring.
The print is made by creating the image by hand in an oil based medium on a metal plate which is then etched by dipping in acid. The plate is then individually hand inked for each print giving each print their own individual character with none of them being exactly the same. The metal plate is then covered with dampened paper and run through the press which puts immense pressure on the paper that is pushed into the lines of the plate and lifts out the ink. The print is then dried flat in acid free tissue under weights for a few days.
Two artist proofs are now also sold out.
