More than once I have been invited by proud owners to visit their horses and take photos "for inspiration" only to find my camera simply unable to pick out the animal from the deep gloom of the stable. This is despite the fact that I can perfectly well see the gleaming coat and wary eye watching me.
It is an example of what painting has to offer that photography cannot - at least not as photography is practised by me with my simple point-and-shoot!
This painting attempts to capture the experience of me peering at the horse through the hay-scented gloom of the stable - and the horse peering back at me, wondering what I am up to.
