Artist's description:

If this colour woodcut had a sub-title, it would have been 'Oxford Enchanted.' The print is a mythical vision of Oxford, UK, the city of 'dreaming spires.' I was a student there and then lived in the city for almost twenty more years. My first degree at Oxford University was psychology and philosophy, so the title 'Cerebral City' refers to this Oxford academic tradition of a highly refined – "cerebral" – existence. The dome shape of the woodblock reflects this idea of the heady, cerebral life. Oxford is also a city of myth-making, with Lewis Carrol's 'Alice in Wonderland,' Tolkien's 'Lord of the Rings,' and Philip Pullman's 'His Dark Materials.' The woodcut is an affectionate homage to this remarkable, magical place.
