Original artwork description:

This artwork comes from my diploma The Railway Journal. Batik is a technique of hand-dyeing fabrics. The parts of the fabric which are not intended to be dyed are covered with melted wax. One may use a mixture of beeswax and paraffin wax. The beeswax will hold to the fabric, whereas the paraffin wax will allow cracking. The wax is removed in the final stage by ironing. My batik paintings were created in a series of dying, drying waxing steps. Each batik painting looks differently depending on the light and exhibition.

Materials used:

pigments, hot wax, cotton fabric
