Artist's description:

A fine example of Neoclassicism in Barcelona.

The house of the Union of Sailing or house Seda, was built between 1758 and 1763 as the headquarters of the Guild of Weavers sails that existed in Barcelona since 1553, but underwent a major expansion due to the growth in demand for candles (silk) to increase maritime traffic from the end of the seventeenth century. It was designed by John Garrido and preserves the original engravings of the eighteenth century facades south west (overlooking the Via Laietana) and the Southeast. The other facade, which overlooks the square of San Francisco, had been to the opening of the Via Laietana a dividing wall, and coinciding with the refurbishment of the building which he directed in 1930 by the architect Jeroni Martorell the stucco Ferran Serra are made others imitating ancient engravings. On the corner there is a picture of the Immaculate Conception work by Joan Enrich.
The building is home to the School of the Greater Art of Seda de Barcelona. Between 1887 and 1892 its chairman was sailing master Benedict Malvehí and Pique.
In recent years the building has been completely renovated.
