Artist's description:

This image was inspired by the tragic story of Bourke and Wills, who were the first Europeans to travel inland from Melbourne to the Gulf of Carpentaria on their disastrous expedition in the 1840s. Although they made it to the Gulf, on their return they perished at Coopers Creek near present day Inaminka in South Australia from lack of food.
