Based on a photograph of my great uncle taken in 1914. He was just married and living in Canada. A few months later he was called up to serve with his battalion in France. They travelled with their son of just a few months on the fated Lusitania. Their son drowned but he and his wife made it to the UK and soon after he joined his battalion but was killed in action in Northern France in 1918.
This painting represents a moment of calm before the storm which was about to unfold in his life.
Oil on board , initialed on the front and signed on the back together with the title.
Every effort has been made to ensure that the colours are an accurate representation but different computer monitors can show a slight variation.
