The canal once went from North Wales right through to Newtown where very special linen was produced and sold to the rich & famous ... even Queen Victoria herself. The water from each of the local towns and villages gave each garment a particular feel.
The Buttington canal also had along its run, lime kilns.
This quiet stretch might one day be reconnected to Newtown (it was disconnected when the banks burst). Even then it is hoped that traffic will be restricted to keep the special wildlife of this stretch safe & sound.
