The form of a beetle, as most forms in nature, I have always found fascinating. I look a a form and want to decorate it, perhaps as an expression of appreciation for the beauty, or even oddity. I wanted to convey this and also a natural texture, so the beetle has an impasto effect and I used a stick to paint with, so as to allow more freedom. The colours are symbolic of the earth on which the insect crawls and I have used a faux gold leaf to convey the idea of beauty but the surface of this has a worn effect, again to convey a naturalness.
It is a deep canvas and doesn't need framing. Each work is wrapped to ensure good protection and sent by courier.
