Artist's description:

After doing a sketch that this painting is based on, I made the foolish mistake of heading off right down that slope in front to Brothers Water. Wainwright said there was a wall that you could follow down. Maybe 50 years ago there was but not now.

Took a massive detour toward Ullswater but there’s a happy ending - I saw a herd of deer, probably about 30 of them, pretty close up, with a stag (who scared me a little).

Dorothy Wordsworth loved it here. She walked in the woods to the right of the lake and then up the Dovedale Valley. She was delighted with ‘…the boughs of the bare old trees, the simplicity of the mountains, and the exquisite beauty of the path…the gentle flowing of the stream, the glittering, lively lake, green fields without a living creature to be seen on them.’

And she lived in Grasmere which is gorgeous.

Useless fact: It used to be called Broad Water but two brothers drowned there in the 19th century so they changed the name.

This is an high quality Giclee print. Printed on Hahnemuhle German Etching 310gsm art paper using Epson UltraChrome HDX Wide Gamut Inks
