Artist's description:

This painting is a mixed media masterpiece that boldly contrasts organic and synthetic materials. The main scenery is comprised of segments from a 30' outdoor scroll painting that was completed with petroleum-based acrylic paint and bleached factory manufactured fabric. The mural was painted over the course of 3 years in British Columbia and Alberta. It depicted Canadian-inspired mountain scenery in a contemporary Chinese Literati style. During an artist's residency at the Banff Centre in 2013 I tore it into pieces as a performance art piece, making way for organic materials to fill in the gaps.

I built panels from sustainably harvested wood, coated them with methyl cellulose and fine marble gesso and applied the mountain scenery with rabbit skin glue. Finally I added a single silhouette to each void with my own home-made gouache. The silhouette makes a symbol of nature's ability to slowly regrow herself to repair the destruction caused by synthetic lifestyles.

These mountains were very much inspired by the Canadian and Rocky Mountain ranges. The style of the trees was inspired by the landscape paintings of Gustav Klimt and the style of the buildings by David Hockney.
