The Avon Gorge was formed during the last ice age. It is a 1.5-mile long gorge on the River Avon in Bristol. The Clifton Suspension Bridge is the symbol of the city of Bristol. The bridge is built to a design by William Henry Barlow and John Hawkshaw, based on an earlier design by Isambard Kingdom Brunel. It first opened to the public on 8th December 1864.
