The tactful cactus by your window
Surveys the prairie of your room
The mobile spins to its collision
Clara puts her head between her paws
They've opened shops down West side
Will all the cacti find a home
But the key to the city
Is in the sun that pins
the branches to the sky
(David Bowie, Eight Line Poem)

David Bowie (David Robert Jones, 8 January 1947 – 10 January 2016) was an English singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, record producer, arranger, painter, and actor. Bowie was an influential figure in popular music for over four decades, renowned as an innovator, particularly for his work in the 1970s. He was known for his distinctive baritone voice as well as the eclecticism and intellectual ambition of his work. His androgynous appearance was an iconic element of his image, particularly in the 1970s and 1980s.

A mural of David Bowie by street artist James Cochran, aka Jimmy C, painted in 2013 has been chosen by fans as an impromptu shrine to remember the rock star.

Thousands of fans mourning the star have made the journey to Morley's department store in Brixton in south London - where Bowie was born in 1947 - to lay flowers and tributes at the foot of the giant Bowie mural which depicts him made up as he was on the cover of the hit 1973 album, Aladdin Sane.
