These are the famous Camarguais black bulls, bred for the ring, spotted in a field on the way to the Rhône and Avignon. I was struck by the effect of the strong morning sun through the trees against the low ridge - a light which here diffracts into a pattern of vivid, almost Fauve, colours.
This painting forms part of a series whose aim is to express the experience of the southern French light.
The canvas is painted around the edges, so may be hung framed or unframed.
