Artwork description:

Trail captured via 'My Tracks' of my walk from Temple Mead Station to Leonard's Lane up to Queen Street, Clifton to the RWA. Colour represent the various movement of various people throughout time coming through Bristol. New biological life-form born from the transmission of knowledge via the many people coming through Bristol (via land and sea). Particualarly polemical and aesthetic piece with a resonance to African Masks and past historical slave trades and the mixing of culture and genetics through time. Highlighting the importance of inter-cultural exchanges to the evolution of the human species.

The photographs of the images do not do it any real justice due to the printing technique employed. Each layer of colour appears to float, bringing a sense of three dimensional depth to each layer, building on each previously printed image. The specific mix of oil paint and medium allows the translucency of the layers to allow much more light through their surface, bouncing back from the paper backing and bring a particular aesthetic to this image - symbolic of the transparency of layered time. These really have to be seen first hand.

Materials used:

Oil Paint, Medium, Cartridge Paper, Lino
