Artist's description:

This is the first of a series of 6 paintings from a project called Remote Britain. Together with a photographer and a blogger we traveled around the UK, painting and photographing the remote landscapes. Beneath The Surface was inspired by my visits to The Outer Hebrides, Lundy Island, Bardsey Island and Northumbria. All of these locations were out on the edge of a coastline and so, treated me to a dramatic display of the seawater reaching the coast and crashing onto the rocks.
In this piece, I’ve tried to capture the depth and layers of this meeting of elements in an abstract way using oil paint and pallet knives.
