Artist's description:

Belle van Zuylen lived in 18th century Holland. She was born into a rich family and like the whole upper class in those days, they only spoke French. Dutch was for plebs.
She was a free spirit, trying to be true to herself in a time where people, especially women, were bound by many rules...and quite literally in a physical way by the strict use of corsets. Her quote shows her determination to live her life on her terms and I admire that!
"Je n'ai pas les talents subalternes." - I don't have a talent for being restricted.
