Artist's description:

A portrait of a member of the prewar Footscray underworld, Barney stands outside the Buckingham Hotel (now units), a single tear making his way down his cheek.
The palette used is red, white and blue, both the colours of local football heroes The Bulldogs and the that of the Australian Flag, under which Barney fought and died during World War 2
The painting is on a "gallery wrap" stretcher.
