Artist's description:

Early one November morning near my house, I was captivated by the bare-tree shadows falling across the lane leading down to the village. I went home to get my sketchbook and stood in the middle of the road for half an hour doing a rough pencil sketch. Back in the studio, I painted the scene in watercolour. My aim was not to render the view photorealistically but to convey the kind of 'enchanted forest' atmosphere I had experienced.
