Artist's description:

Vertical, oval canvas: the head, neck and shoulder edge of a blue, black and red mottled bird of an emu type but no known species, head and beak in profile as it looks backwards over its shoulder, or prepares to preen. The composition is about curving ovoid shapes but I compromised on the geometry for some kind of anatomical credibility. My original idea was of using some inherited gold leaf to create a kind of birdy icon, but in fact, the gold leaf is now liberally supplemented with metallic paint!
