This area of Spain, North of Guadalajara province, abounds in oak forests and slate is found at shallow depths. For this reason slate has been used as construction material resulting in the so called “black architecture”, characteristic of the villages in the area.
I have applied oil paint using palette knifes preferentially; resulting in a composition with a powerful, rough-finished foreground which, seems to me, appropriately describes the subject, while contrasting with the Autumn colours of the background.
